German eHealth specialist enters Canada
InterComponentWare launches in Toronto
InterComponentWare AG (ICW), based in Walldorf, Germany, a company that delivers an interoperable eHealth infrastructure and a range of end-user applications for healthcare professionals and their patients, officially entered the Canadian market on March 26 with an event in downtown Toronto.
As well as demonstrations of ICW’s solutions portfolio, the event featured a roundtable discussion involving Newt Gingrich, founder of the Center for Health Transformation and former speaker of the U.S. House of Representative; Frank McKenna, deputy chair of TD Bank Financial Group and former premier of New Brunswick; and Peter Reuschel, founder and CEO of ICW. The discussion was moderated by Wayne Gudbranson, CEO of the IT consulting firm Branham Group.
Gingrich and McKenna, both influential politicians and policy strategists, talked about the importance of technology in reducing costs and improving the quality of healthcare, and empowering individuals to manage their own health and wellness. Patients need to take greater responsibility for managing their own health and their health records, Gingrich said.
ICW, which has locations in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Bulgaria and the United States, and is partnering with xwave in Canada, says its technology enables organizations to extend their existing information systems, connect with diverse systems, and create a secure patient health record based on aggregated data. The interoperability and health information exchange components of its solutions make aggregated data a reality.
“Canada has taken a leadership position with its proactive approach to healthcare,” says Jeremy Coote, CEO of ICW Inc., the company’s U.S. operation. “The Canadian goal of creating an even more responsive and cost-effective care delivery system is attainable. ICW solutions, which connect the patient, provider and institutional systems through a secure eHealth infrastructure with end-user applications, can be integral to helping accelerate Canada’s progress towards its goals. We look forward to working with such forward-thinking professionals.”
